For over 25 years Coral Sea Kayaking has offered boutique Sea Kayak expeditions on Hinchinbrook Island and amongst the islands off the Cassowary Coast. Our most popular journey spends 6 days paddling, swimming, snorkeling and camping our way up the coast of Hinchinbrook Island (Munamudanamy).
Wow! Is often people’s reaction to this journey. Imagine an island paradise lying off the North Queensland coast where towering mountains give way to pristine rainforest fringed by white, sandy beaches and warm, azure waters. On this island your footprints will be the only prints on the beach. Hinchinbrook is Australia’s largest island national park, and is wedged between lush World Heritage rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef. On this 6 day trip we paddle over 100km (2-5 hours per day) from Lucinda up the east coast of Hinchinbrook Island then Island hop our way back to Mission Beach via Goold Island and Wheeler Island. Each night we camp on remote, secluded beaches where we’re unlikely to see another soul. The trip includes experienced & passionate sea kayak guides, gourmet expedition catering, snorkeling coral reefs and swimming in some of the best waterholes in North Queensland. Side trips include short hikes to sites along the famous Thorsborne Trail and beach combing in spots that are only accessible by sea kayak. Marine life encounters can include whales, dolphins, turtles, dugongs and coral reefs that fringe our Island Camp sites.
Our 3 day Cassowary Coast Sea Kayaking trip is another classic sea kayaking adventure. We paddle from Mission Beach out to the either the Family Island Group, or the Barnard Island Group. Once there we camp on these remote tropical islands, snorkel, swim and explore the different beaches, shorelines and reefs. There is plenty of birdlife on these trips, along with the marine life mentioned above.
The mission of Coral Sea Kayaking is to bring people into relaxation and atonement with the natural elements. To fully experience the rhythms of the rainforest, ocean and skies above as we travel through remote island paradises. A Coral Sea Kayaking specialty is tailoring trips to the unique and hopeful individuals that join us; allowing them to connect with family, friends, self, and the sand between their toes.
Each trip begins with a pre-departure meeting the night before at Mission Reef Resort where we give you key information and equipment. On day one, we will pick you up from your accommodation and head to the starting point for briefings and instruction. Although these are active vacations, you do not necessarily need sea kayaking experience to participate. All that we require is moderate fitness, good water confidence and a desire to camp out on some of the beach beaches in the country. All trips finish back at Mission Beach in the afternoon on your final day.
